Mena Alexandra Suvari (born on 13 February 1979) is an American actress, fashion designer and model. After a brief stint as a model in the fashion industry before moving into acting when she appeared in guest roles on television shows like Boy Meets World in the 1990s as well as High Incident. In 1997 she debuted acting in a movie with Nowhere. The performances she made in American Beauty, for which she earned the BAFTA Award nomination and American Pie led to her being the subject of more attention. In 2000, she starred with her American Pie co star Jason Biggs. In 2002, she took on the main role on the film Sugar & Spice (2002). Her appearances were in the independent drama Spun and in the 2004 thriller film Trauma. She also appeared in HBO's series Six Feet Under. She was nominated for the Screen Actors ' Guild Award 2005 as part of the Outstanding Ensemble. In 2008, she was cast in several films that included Day of the Dead The Mysteries of Pittsburgh as well as the film adaptation to The Garden of Eden. Suvari is a model for Lancome cosmetics and print ads in the brand's Lancome Paris Adaptive also was featured on numerous magazine and fashion blogs, including Vogue. She has long been a supporter as well as an activist of the respected African relief group, the African Medical and Research Foundation. She also is involved with issues related to female empowerment, and participates in charitable organizations that are devoted to breast cancer, and the End Violence Against Women campaign.
